I'm here for 2 or 3 minutes a day. I haven't blogged in weeks. No one has viewed my blogs in a few days and... the last comment to one of my blogs was 3 weeks ago.

That said... Chinese FriendFinder has me on a list of "actively watched blogs"
Now... that's funny!

我的同事是一位病理学的说谎的人。 这正阻止。 我不能使他是诚实的。

There's a pathological liar in my office. The boss has already warned him if he continues to lie to the customers, he will be fired. Hardly a day goes by where I haven't caught him in a lie and remind him of the warning from the boss. The part I dislike most is his lies often reflect on me. My credibility has been compromised simply by association with him as I'm project manager for many of his jobs.

It's really annoying to go over an order with a customer and hearing them tell me things that are (supposedly) included but not on the contract or salesman's takeoff. They insist it was in the "salesman's pitch" of what was included in the order. I end up "throwing it in free" for undocumented requests because our know they can call the boss and complain and get their way anyway.

This weekend, I'm making a SIMPLE FORM for exclusions. Right... contract exclusions are more important than inclusions. If the customer is responsible to repaint after the new kitchen is installed, it will be noted on the form so I won't get the phone call later that we forgot to repaint the kitchen... and the dining room and the living room, because we all know you cannot match new paint to the old paint to THEIR satisfaction.

Your lieability is making you a liability...

Oh, they're Indians? Thanks a lot Columbus...

Columbus had a great idea. The world is round and sailing West would bring a shorter trade route to the Far East. He reaches land and realizes the people there aren't Chinese... So, thinking he landed at India he calls them Indians and the world follows with this discovery.

One small glitch... IT'S NOT INDIA COLUMBUS... you missed it by an entire continent.

The people there are Americans. Indians are on another continent.
Because of this, we have to define "what" Indian we are talking about... India Indian or American Indian.
Let's not forget, many India Indians migrated to the island on Jamaica and (naturally) they are defined as Jamaican Indians, not to be confused with Aztec Indians of Mexico and Central America.

Oh, Columbus... what were you thinking?

Thanks for reading my blog.

Formally Hillary is now formerly Hillary...

It comes as no surprise that Hillary Clinton has resigned her position as secretary of state. While I believe her position was a deal struck to pay-back the Clinton's for their help to get Obama elected, It's also my opinion women are not suitable diplomats in Middle East matters. These are countries where women are stifled in many respects... including religion and government.

Again... that's my opinion.
Some will agree with me and some will disagree with me.

It's interesting the news reports she's keeping the door open to possibilities for president in 2016. What are they thinking?
She's leaving due to health reasons and would be 69 years old if she were to run for office in 2016.

Wishful thinking? Yes, of course.

If you haven't noticed all of the latest devices involve a touch screen. This is the new technology.
2+ years ago, I bought an HTC 7" Android tablet with a data plan from SPRINT.
Life was good. The tablet became my 'everything' for business as far as meeting notes, calendar events, video and voice recording, GPS, camera, calculator and a few other applications available free from the Android Marketplace. Connection was great. I had internet literally everywhere I traveled.

During off time, I could play videos connected from Wi-Fi or use the data plan on the device.

While under warrantee, the tablet that used to run all day and only needed charging every other day started to loose charge within a few hours. This required many calls to Sprint and HTC for tips to reset the tablet (in the case there were applications draining the circuit) but all attempts turned up unsuccessful. I figured the battery had prematurely gone bad.

Back it went to HTC and they returned it quicker than I thought. Connecting it to SPRINT again was not possible. Literally, a few hours with tech support from both SPRINT & HTC and they couldn't get the codes to connect my table. HTC said they replaced the motherboard with a newer version.

The short version was SPRINT allowed me to cancel the contract without penalty because they were unable to provide data service to tablet.

Since the tablet was only 3G and SPRINT didn't have any newer models to offer, I took my business to ATT. They were selling an HTC 10" Android tablet that was rated for 4G LTE (and all speeds lower) so it was perfect for me to upgrade. This 10" model was very similar to the 7" model... as if it were the big brother!

I had some quirks (or differences) in the tablets features dictated by the carrier and not the tablet. For example, the SPRINT data plan allows texting from tablets, the ATT data plan does not. Both phones were assigned a 'telephone' number but ATT differed in the text feature. Annoying, but earth shattering.

If you understand the Android operating system, it's designed for touch screen devices. All the software (applications) take advantage of this. Some things are made easier by a touch environment. That's the reason for this blog... because some things are not. It's a 'pain in the ass' if you need to cut & paste on an android touch screen. Yes, it can be done... but not quickly. At least not for me.

I'm a 'mouse kinda guy' when it comes to cut & paste. This is my world and I always felt limited working on a touch screen in that capacity. I bought a Bluetooth mouse that works with Android... The guys in the office thought I was crazy using a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse on my phone and tablet! You should try it... very slick.

Texting and calendar entries are much faster from a keyboard.

Okay, the reason for this blog... six months in the the contract with the 10" HTC tablet and I'm having the SAME BATTERY DRAIN problems the 7" tablet had. Troubleshooting tips didn't work. Resetting the tablet didn't work. Calls to HTC and ATT are leaning to the tablet going back to HTC for warrantee service/repair.

Last Friday, I stopped at the local ATT retail store. I had been looking at some of the newer tablets and... had an idea to switch to a Windows 8 tablet instead of an Android system. I worked out the details and bought a SAMSUNG ATIV Smart PC with an 11.6" screen.

Woah... this is a sleek lightweight yet capable device. This thing rocks!

If you have read my previous blog, I recently upgraded a few computers to Windows 8 and they appear to be working fine. All my business software is 'non-touch' but as I explained on my blog, I upgraded for the improved operating system that takes advantage of the newer computer hardware. Windows 8 interface and a touch screen monitor is just icing on the cake.

The problem now isn't Windows 8... the problem is the lack of good touch screen applications!

This week, I have researched a few websites offering Windows 8 applications and tried a bunch of free apps.

When it works.. it works good. Not perfect, but good. These new applications are just fine. Programmers have only scratched the surface and it won't be long before better Windows 8 applications become standard.

First look:
Comparison to Android... Honestly, I have to say Android is better. At least right now. They've been around longer and better developed for the operating system. The apps appear to 'feel' smoother. Again, it could be the newness to the operating system. Let's wait and see.

Skype for Windows 8 is better than the Android version.
Yahoo Messenger is the old Windows version. (Yahoo, please hurry and rewrite this)
Calendar and e-mail all appear to be about the same.
I tried a few touch based card games and they are perfectly acceptable. I'm still faster with a mouse but sometimes I'm just tired of using a mouse.

More blog than I intended... if you got this far, thanks for reading!

Frick & Frack

I was a when I heard my parents call 2 goofy acting brothers Frick & Frack.

At the time, It didn't have any meaning to me other than nicknames and I assumed Frick & Frack were some old-time movie stars.

Years ago, a cabinet installation team who I worked with were called Frick & Frack by the manager. These guys were always together and acted kinda goofy. That seemed to fit the description of the 2 boys my parents knew.

Some older things pop in my head (like Cab Calloway and Al Jolson songs) and I'm quick to run to the internet for research, especially YouTube if there's a form of entertainment.

My research showed that Frick & Frack are (were as they are deceased) the professional names of two Swiss skaters who came to the U.S. in 1937. They joined the original Ice Follies show as comedy ice skaters.

These guys were really good. They mastered many skating tricks and used them in their routine.

Naturally... someone was nice enough to post a film of them from 1944 in YouTube.

I'm not posting the link but it's easy to find if you go to YouTube and type in "Frick & Frack"

Old black & white move with some lighthearted entertainment.

Windows 8 upgrade... my experience.

Earlier this week, I decided to do some computer upgrades. I'm now testing out a 27" touch screen monitor connected to my new laptop running under Windows 8 pro using the virtual keyboard of W8. Basically, it's like using a giant touch tablet.

I'm sure I could get used to this, but now my speed is down and my typo rate is high.

Following the instructions to connect every thing first and then turn on the computer and monitor, W8 seamlessly loaded the (metro) interface and was ready to run without any glitches.

The only down-side of the keyboard is it's not scalable. I would prefer it to be larger. Also, the Microsoft layout is a little different to my Android tablet. I'm a creature of habit. It would be nice to have more options, as they offer a split keyboard that looks like a Microsoft 'natural' keyboard but that's not for me.

I did try out the touch version of Solitaire and the visual was beautiful! Sometimes I get tired of using a mouse so this was a plus to be able to play a game entirely on touch. Sure, I could do the same on a 10" Android tablet... Using a 27" screen is a different world. No glasses needed!

Right now, the protective plastic is on the screen so there is a little drag (friction) when swiping. The monitor comes with a conductive stylus and a soft wiping cloth so fingerprints shouldn't be an issue.

Upgrades... I normally avoid them. But this one is working pretty well!

The invention of the century...

In a conventional bathroom you have a toilet and a ceiling fan that is 7 feet above the toilet. You poop and the room fills with the smell of your bowels. Typically, It takes 10 minutes for the air to clear.

My new invention has the fan built into the toilet with the vent just above the bowl. It connects to a hose (similar to the dryer vent hose) to suck the stench directly out of the bathroom.

I'm delighted I invented this. I am sure, I'll sell millions of these things!

The smell goes right out of your ass and directly into the vent. The bathroom doesn't have to stink. The three people who use the toilet after you don't have to suffer that you 'ate Mexican' for lunch!

For those of you who choose not to replace your toilet, I plan to offer a 'mini-fart-filter' built into the toilet seat with a smaller hose that connects to a wall mounted venting system. Not as efficient at the original, but 10 times better than a conventional ceiling mounted fan.

Now... I need a catchy name for this product.
I'm thinking about calling it the iFART FILTER.

Suggestions welcomed.

Possible side effects...

I sometimes 'go off on a tangent' reading medical reports and studies on medicines. I have no desire to be a pharmacist but it intrigues me how pharmaceutical companies get many of their test results. Get this... they often use humans!
Is that funny or what?

People try these medicines and someone evaluates the results. After that, they compile all this information and submit it to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to get approval to release their product on the market.

Whenever a doctor prescribes a medicine for me, I try to (internet) research it first. There have been times when I refused to spend money having a prescription filled simply because I knew the side effects outweighed the benefits of the medicine. Zocor for example. I took that stuff 12 years ago and got 'sicker than sick'

Reading the Zocor side effects had me shaking my head yes to about 75% of the problems listed. I went back to my doctor telling him how sick I got and his reply was "Why did you take it?" My reply was "You said it was medically necessary as my cholesterol and triglycerides were dangerously high" He told me never to do that again and found another medicine that had less side effects.

Sometimes... yes sometimes the side effects for a medicine lists totally opposite effects. For example: drowsiness; insomnia; constipation; diarrhea. Well... what's it going to be?

I'm thinking not to take medicines that cause: muscle aches; nausea; pain; stomach pain; tiredness or weakness; vomiting.

But if I really had to, I would like to combine them with medicines that cause: severe dizziness or lightheadedness; hallucinations; mood or mental changes (eg, confusion, depression, foggy thinking, short-term memory loss)

The combination would result in "Having no clue" how sick I really was. Nor would I know how the brown stains on my bed sheets got there!

Thanks for reading my blog!
